This past week we celebrated Memorial Day. Aside from honoring those who have served our country, past and present, Memorial Day also serves as the official start of summer for many communities. Whether that’s going to the beach, having a cookout, attending a parade, or just spending time in the sun with friends and family we can finally get into that summer state of mind. One of the things I love the most is seeing how patriotism was worked into summer outfits on Memorial Day. Because what other day can you get away looking like a walking American flag?
Perfect for backyard chilling this tunic has a relaxed menswear vibe but still can feel feminine by accentuating the waist with a belt.
Small touches to basics like denim shorts or vests are great options for quickly getting ready for a BBQ when you don’t have the time to buy all new American inspired outfits. There’s tons of DIY sites out there to show you how to quickly and cost efficiently give your old garments a face lift.
Shoes like this are another great way to make a statement, as long as your confident in walking in them you’ll be sure to grab everyone’s attention in the best way!
But, if you’re not into the big and bold statement pieces, you can still choose smaller accessories to rock the trend. From pins, to scarves, to hair pieces, there’s really no shortage of ways to incorporate red, white, and blue into your outfit.

When you hit the beach or the pool, you can keep it classic with triangle or bandeau bikinis mixing large stars and stripes.
Be warned–don’t be surprised if you show up and five other girls are also rocking an almost identical suit. Keep yours more original by not using an exact flag replica version and play with different fabrics and shapes like this bow-top bikini.
If you missed your chance to show off your star spangled style on Memorial Day, these flag fashions are appropriate pretty much all throughout the summer. And hey, it’s never too early to start planning your Fourth of July outfit!
