With New York Fashion Week, new lingerie lines, and spring just around the corner, it was very easy to get swept up in the new styles that Iʼm dying to try out. But, itʼs also important to remember what is always inspirational, regardless of the season. Photography is clearly a passion, specifically capturing people and couples in ways that they may not express on a day to day basis. So, I decided to take a minor detour this week, and incorporate all different types of pictures of people, places, and things from around the world that inspire my sense of fashion and the emotions that they can make you feel. This is a photo from people prepping for New Yorkʼs Fashion Week. What most people see, whether they read about the events in a magazine or are lucky enough to attend them, is the glitz and glamour of showtime. They see the final product, but sometimes what is most important is how the stage is set for that presentation. Iʼm sure that fashion magazines would opt not to show the workers sweeping the stage before hand, but isnʼt it important to remember the work and effort that goes into something as fabulous as fashion week, in order to have a full appreciation for it?
Here is an image from “Holi,” which is translated to the festival of colors. Itʼs a religious based celebration by Hindus that has a long history, but essentially is one of the most fun times of the year–a day dedicated to fun, dancing, music, and of course, color. Bursts of paint cover participants, and in a carefree fashion they let it cover their clothes, skin, and hair. This undoubtedly reminds me of how much color can affect your mood and emotion. Even by what colors you choose to wear can say a lot about your personality. Itʼs empowering to know that those bright orange skinny jeans you just bought can tell a complete stranger that youʼre outgoing and fun. This was even more inspiration to amp up the color scheme for spring!
This photo doesnʼt necessarily have a rich history to it, but I love it nonetheless. Itʼs playful and silly, but still has sex appeal. It shows that everyone should enjoy a cupcake, and even if your pouring whipped cream right into your mouth, if youʼre wearing something as fabulous as that floral body suit, itʼs a little more acceptable. When viewed together, these images donʼt seem to have much in common. However, I love that something as stark as cleaners at Fashion Week, to a cultural even in India, to even someoneʼs spirited and trendy photo shoot all remind me of the little things that cause lots of inspiration– appreciation, color, a carefree attitude, and yes, cupcakes.
