Ever find it impossible to find clothing that matches your style, but is also seen as professional in a work environment? I hear women complaining about that quite frequently, so I thought I’d use this week’s blog to highlight some really fabulous outfits, that are also office friendly.
If your job has a more formal dress code, unfortunately you usually have less room to experiment with new outfits. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find crafty and fashionable ways to dress up your suit. One of the easiest and most popular ways is with a neck-tie. Similar to how men get their suits to stand out with their tie for the day, women’s silk scarves can do the same. You can fasten it in a bow for a preppy look, this top from J.Crew has the necktie built in.
Scarves also work in more casual outfits, this Ralph Lauren look is super polished even though she has jeans on. Casual friday anyone?
Color is another wonderful way to add some spunk to your 9-5. Taking classic work staples like a button up and cardigan, but choosing more unique colors and patterns is the perfect mixture of professional and playful. I love a chambray button up under a bright v-neck cardigan. This first look is definitely playful with tons of color and print, but you can also choose to make one garment a neutral to tone it down a bit.
Likewise, you can keep the top neutral and pair with a bright pair of dress pants. Skinny and tailored dress pants can give you that same edgy vibe as your favorite skinny jeans, but richer material gets the nod of approval from H.R. And with a fabulous blazer, who could complain? Don’t be afraid of accessorizing!
If you’re a little less preppy and a little more daring in terms of street style, don’t be afraid to work your favorite patterns and textures into your office style. Just be careful with everything else, such as tightness, skirt/dress length, and neck line. While you obviously want to pay attention to these things anyway, it’s especially important if you’re finding ways to wear snakeskin to work! Anne Taylor gets edgy this season with their line of Animal Instinct inspired looks.
