In the dead of the winter, and in the midst of what everyone is calling the “Polar Vortex,” winter can be a little rough sometimes. Whether your area is normally mild and you go below freezing for the first time, or you’re used to the cold but now buried under feet of snow…there’s no doubt that after the holidays are done this season can be sort of a drag. While we patiently wait for spring to arrive, we can find little ways to brighten our days all on our own. Keep reading to see my favorite things for easy pick-me-ups on cold dreary days you need it the most!
Like many style solutions, one of the easiest and most affordable ways to add something new to a look is through nail color! Avoid the temptation to go black or silver during the winter months and try something a little more colorful. Jewel tones are the perfect happy medium between the dark and warm colors of winter and the neons we may be craving. Cobalt blue and Evergreen each have a a bit of warmth, but also a rich color that will stand out against gray skies.
Warm clothing doesn’t have to sacrifice style. Sweater dresses give you trendy appeal as well as a thicker fabric, and blazers are perfect for an added touch of professionalism as well as that extra layer you may be needing. The key here is to pick some clothing options in these categories that veer from the traditional winter and fall colors. Who says you have to wear burgundy all winter long anyway? Currently eyeing: this Lilly Pulitzer sweater dress, in a fresh mint and blue pattern. Pair it with tights, boots, and a blazer and you’ll be set.
Of course we can’t leave out lingerie. Regardless of the falling temps, inside you’ll be raising the heat. I’m loving delicate and pastel inspired pieces that remind me that yes, soon enough there will be leaves back on the trees, and flowers in the ground. But for now I’ll just have to wear something fabulous as a reminder.
But at the end of the day if you really just want to shut your eyes and pretend that it’s spring, do so in style with a glamorous eye mask. Whether you want something goofy, something comfy, or something sexy, eye masks have grown in popularity (Thank you Breakfast at Tiffanys!) and you can find one to fit any style. How could you not dream up something spring-like in this?
But as I said, there are lots and lots of other options!
Whether it’s buying a fresh bouquet of flowers or wearing a floral lingerie set, it’s easier than you think to brighten up your day!
